Description

A complete DB9 (DE-9) female crimp connector kit for building or repairing RS-232 serial cables. This is the classic 9-pin D-Sub female connector — the standard interface used for decades on PC serial ports, RS-232 serial mice, external modems, plotters, industrial instruments, CNC machinery, and a vast range of retro and legacy computing and electronic equipment such as Amiga and Atari computers.

Unlike the more common solder-cup version, this kit uses crimp-type contacts which are crimped onto individual wires using a suitable crimp tool, then inserted into the pin housing. This method produces a cleaner, more reliable and professional-grade termination with no risk of solder cold joints or heat damage to insulation — the preferred approach in professional cable assembly.

Kit contents in detail

• Female DB9 pin insert block — the dielectric housing that holds the 9 female socket contacts in the standard D-Sub 2-row (5+4) arrangement; fits into the backshell
• Black plastic clamshell backshell — two-piece black plastic outer housing that clamps around the insert and cable, secured with screws; provides mechanical protection and strain relief anchor point. Hood-style angled design for neat cable exit
• Threaded strain relief boot — ribbed black cylindrical boot that threads onto the rear of the backshell to grip the cable jacket and prevent pull-out stress on the crimped contacts
• Strip of 9 crimp contacts — female socket contacts on carrier tape, ready to be separated, crimped onto wires, and inserted into the pin block.

Assembly note

A suitable crimp tool for D-Sub contacts is required to assemble this connector. Standard D-Sub crimp tools (e.g. Amphenol, Molex, or generic) are widely available and work with these contacts. No soldering equipment is needed.

Condition

New Old Stock (NOS) — all components are unused and uninstalled. The crimp contacts remain on the original carrier strip. Housings show no signs of assembly or use. Some light storage dust may be present consistent with age. Sold as seen — please refer to all photographs.
